Assessments

A quality assessment is paramount to ensure a comfortable and functional orthotic. Manchester orthotics appreciate the importance of taking time to ensure a thorough assessment. All assessments are carried out by one of our experienced HCPC and BAPO registered orthotists.

The assessment will start by asking a range of question to gain a clear picture of the patients requirements. These questions will most likely include medical history, lifestyle, previous orthotic use, current activity level and future goals.

Where appropriate the orthotist will then do a visual and physical assessment. The visual assessment may include analysing your walking, running or checking skin condition, pelvic symmetry and even shoe wear. Where required we may also use video analysis or pressure plates. The physical assessment may involve testing range of motion, muscle power and reflexes.

At this point the orthotist and patient will discuss the orthotic options available and decide on the most suitable orthotic. To ensure the orthotic is the correct size and comfortable a series of specific measurements, a foam impression, a plaster cast or a scan maybe taken. The orthotic will then be manufactured and you will be able to arrange a fitting appointment on the day for a time the suits you.
